Byrne Pelofsky is excited to announce that our client, The Willow, opened its doors to a second domestic violence shelter location last week after successfully completing a $750,000 capital campaign. The Willow is a shelter, support, and referral organization for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking serving Douglas, Jefferson, and Franklin counties in Kansas. Byrne Pelofsky and The Willow formed a partnership in January 2020 to kick-off the capital campaign.

This campaign was launched and completed amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Byrne Pelofsky provided campaign management and grant writing services to secure support and build funder relationships that propelled the campaign over the finish line. Integral campaign funding came from the Ronald D. Deffenbaugh Foundation, Sunderland Foundation, and a successful J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Challenge Grant.

This new shelter will increase The Willow’s beds from 28 to 48 beds and extend a survivor’s stay from 30 to 90 days. With additional beds, more survivors will be served, and longer periods of bed-nights will allow survivors to begin rebuilding their lives.
