Client Partner Spotlight: After the Harvest Celebrates Earth Day

Apr 26, 2021

After the Harvest’s (ATH) mission is to fight hunger, improve nutrition, and reduce food waste by rescuing fresh produce and distributing it to organizations that feed hungry people. Each week, ATH delivers fresh produce to more than 360 agencies that serve over 35,000 hungry people in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The organization has saved nearly 25 million pounds of produce, providing approximately 100 million servings of nutritious food to hungry people. Byrne Pelofsky has been working with ATH over the past twelve months to grow their resource development efforts through grant research and writing and through major gifts identification, cultivation, and solicitation.

ATH celebrated Earth Day by partnering with Compost Collective KC to give a presentation to MRIGlobal about the many issues around food waste. The audience was shocked by the fact that it takes 25 years for a head of romaine lettuce to decompose in a landfill! The presentation focused on the ways that ATH is working to reduce waste like this while feeding hungry people at the same time. ATH also planned to celebrate Earth Day by organizing Cinema Under the Stars: A Kansas City Community Celebration in collaboration with Compost Collective KC and Premier Integrative Health. The evening was set to take place at Loose Park and feature an outdoor screening of the film WASTED! The Story of Food Waste produced by Anthony Bourdain. Unfortunately, the event was postponed to June 5th due to rain. Click here to learn more and reserve free tickets.
