Client-Partner Spotlight on…Amethyst Place

Feb 22, 2022

Byrne Pelofsky is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Amethyst Place that will provide crucial development funding for an expansion project. Amethyst Place is seeking to raise $14,100,000 to fund the transformation of 1.28 acres of blighted, vacant land in Midtown Kansas City into 34 apartments and townhomes. This effort will double their current supportive housing capacity and provide safe residential options for moms and kids in transition.

For over 20 years, Amethyst Place has provided a broad shoulder of support for single mothers who are separated from their children due to various circumstances including substance use and unsafe or nonexistent housing options. With a goal of reuniting families for the long-term, Amethyst Place has helped 350 families, including 650 children, escape the spiral of substance use and poverty. While safe housing is a priority, Amethyst Place also addresses on-site therapeutic, financial, career and wellness services in a holistic approach to stabilization. The community demand outpaces existing capacity and they run a 12-month wait list for services.

Upon completion, the new facility will immediately impact women and children with a “place to heal” and with an opportunity for new beginnings. It will include community space, green space and an outdoor playground.

“To fund this $14,100,000 project, we are looking to leverage public funding opportunities with private philanthropy,” said Starla Brennan, Executive Director. “We engaged Byrne Pelofsky for their expertise in public-private partnerships and to garner the support of additional private donors. This is the first time Amethyst Place has engaged with a fundraising firm and we are excited to grow the community investment in our life-changing work.”
