Congregation Beth Shalom Breaks Ground on New Worship Space

Dec 14, 2021

Members of the Byrne Pelofsky team were honored to participate in Congregation Beth Shalom’s groundbreaking ceremony on November 21 for their new sacred space for worship.

Byrne Pelofsky was engaged to design and implement the $15,000,000 development project and campaign. Together with the Congregation Beth Shalom Steering committee and a generous matching grant, the funds were secured. Ellen Kort, Senior Consultant with Byrne Pelofsky, led the effort.

Congregation Beth Shalom has engaged world-renown architect, Preston Cohen of Cambridge, MA to design the 13,000 square foot space.  Known for his innovative geometric designs, this building features two scroll-like “tubes” that were inspired from the Torah.  Local firm BNIM is collaborating as well on the design.

Congregation Beth Shalom moved educational programs to 142nd and Lamar in 2006 while continuing to worship at the 95th and Wornall campus.  The Wornall campus was closed in 2011 and the Congregation used Goldsmith Hall multi-purpose space for prayer and community gathering.  The new sacred space will seat up to 700 in an inspiring, uplifting communal worship environment.
