Client Success Story: DPI Reaches $3.25m Campaign Goal in the Midst of COVID-19 Crisis

May 5, 2020

Byrne Pelofsky is thrilled to announce that our client, Developing Potential, Inc. (DPI) crossed the finish line on a $3.25 million capital campaign in April 2020.   The Building Lives capital campaign funded the construction of a community-oriented, universally-designed facility that will allow individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their highest potential. DPI is led by a committed leadership team with Rebecca Case, Executive Director, and Amy Cox, Director of Development, at the helm.

The success of the campaign will enable DPI to drastically increase the capacity of day habilitation services for individuals aged 19-65 with developmental disabilities. The new site in Lee’s Summit will increase program site space to 20,000 square feet, reduce the waiting list by 50%, and add support to the geographic areas of Jackson County with the highest need.

Along the way, DPI was awarded a $650,000 challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation. Their deadline to meet the match and reach their campaign goal was in early April 2020. Amy and her team were undeterred by the state of international and local affairs as spring approached. Rather than throw up their hands, they forged ahead with their plan and reached their goal in the middle of the COVID-19 global health crisis.

Eric Tschanz, Senior Consultant with Byrne Pelofsky, Director Emeritus of Powell Gardens and Lead Consultant on the DPI campaign had this to say about the campaign, “This was a great team effort with the Campaign Committee, DPI staff, and BP+A consultants. We not only met the campaign goal but developed a broad donor base for future campaigns.  We are all pleased with the outcome of this first-time major campaign for DPI.”
