Client Spotlight: Hillcrest Transitional Housing

Homelessness is a reality for many people in our region struggling to secure affordable housing. Byrne Pelofsky strives to help families in need and is therefore delighted to support Hillcrest Transitional Housing in a capital campaign to double their capacity.  With their mission to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency, Hillcrest addresses the root causes of housing insecurity and advocates for action on homelessness, poverty, affordable housing, and hunger.

Since 1976, Hillcrest’s approach encompasses the total life situation of the families they serve by helping them overcome the challenges that led to their homelessness and equipping them with the skills they need to be self-sufficient for the rest of their lives.

Hillcrest also operates two thrift stores in the region that not only serve as retail spaces, but also as integral components of their broader mission to provide housing and support services to those experiencing homelessness. Thrift stores provide essential housewares for programs and clothing and resources for Hillcrest clients. Thousands of volunteers support the shops which are stocked daily with donated items from Kansas City area communities.

With this new campaign, Hillcrest expects to double the number of transitional housing units, establish affordable rental units’ program, and expand their service area across the Kansas City metro. Byrne Pelofsky is working closely with Hillcrest leadership to secure public support and funding through multiple channels.
